FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN A MASSAGE SESSION?
Your first session will include a general health questionnaire.  I will listen to your needs and together we will assess the massage techniques most beneficial to you.

A full body massage is performed on a padded table where you will be covered with a clean sheet and blanket for extra warmth. The table will be heated when appropriate. Most clients undress completely, while others opt to leave on minimal clothing, such as  underwear.  Your privacy will be respected at all times.  Only the part of the body that is receiving the work will be exposed, while the rest of your body will remain covered.  Some services, such as CranioSacral Therapy and Reiki, are performed fully clothed when lying on the padded table.

Light oils and/ or lotions are used to lubricate the skin during the massage to allow for smooth strokes.  Essential oils may be added to the oils and lotions upon request, to contribute to your overall relaxation.  Music is played softly in the background along with the soothing sounds of a trickling water fountain; all to aid in the relaxation process of your mind and nervous system.

HOW WILL MASSAGE THERAPY HELP ME?
One of the main reasons people seek massage therapy is to counteract the effects caused by an overwhelming amount of stress due to our busy lifestyle.  Massage therapy reduces some of the stress by allowing the body to gain more energy, which can ease some of the symptoms experienced with stress-related disorders, such as depression, anxiety, chronic muscle pain, and migraine headaches.  Massage therapy also encourages your body to replenish the nutrients needed by increasing the amount of oxygen received by your cells, and it assists in the elimination of unwanted wastes quicker and easier.  The following are more added benefits of massage therapy:

  • Relieves pain, stress and anxiety
  • Relaxes muscles and improves joint mobility
  • Promotes well-nourished and healthy skin
  • Improves blood and lymph circulation
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Improves postures
  • Hastens the elimination of toxins from the body
  • Improves immune system functioning
  • Quiets and soothes the nervous system
  • Combats the negative effects of aging
  • Improves energy and alertness
  • Assists in the repair of injured and damaged tissue
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Alleviates problem conditions such as tension headaches, muscular back pain and repetitive motion injuries
  • Eases some of the many stresses of pregnancy. Research actually shows that expectant mothers who receive regular massages have easier deliveries.
  • Reduces the pain and severity of many specific conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, temporal mandible joint dysfunction (TMJ) and sciatica
  • Compliments other health care such as physical therapy and chiropractic care
  • Restores a calm mind and feeling of well-being
